Shropshire Cycling Clubs Association

History

The Shropshire Cycling Clubs Association was founded in 1973 by Cliff Ash, Ira Thomas and Jack Pitchford (Mid-Shropshire Wheelers); Norman White and Jack Duckers (North Shropshire Wheelers); and Gordon Davies (Wrekinsport CC). Its aims are to promote County Championships and to create closer relationships between all cycling clubs in Shropshire. Membership is open to all clubs affiliated to national cycling bodies within the county, and directly to private members with a permanent address in Shropshire. Membership costs £15 for clubs and £5 for private members yearly.

In 2003 Ira Thomas and Norman White sadly passed away after greatly contributing to the Association over 30 years. A new Committee was elected at the November AGM, with Cliff Ash accepting the position of President. They set about building upon the legacy of the founders and have developed the Association to introduce new competitions whilst always remaining mindful of its original aims.

The Association awards a number of trophies annually, including BARs in four categories; fastest Overall, Ladies, Veterans and Junior riders in a Championship Points Series, and in 2006 introduced an Inter-club Series and re-introduced a 4-Up event.
