Shropshire and South Staffordshire Cycle Road Race League

The SSSCRRL promote evening entry-on-the-line road races using a variety of circuits in the two Counties. These are handicap events; with Novices, Juniors and 4th Cats Starting first, 1st Cats and Elites starting last. All Cats are accepted, with the staggered start giving everyone interested in Road Racing locally the opportunity to have a good training race whilst providing a safe training environment to help both newcomers and pros alike develop bunch skills without getting blown out or demoralised.

The field is usually split into four groups, with handicapper Dave Goring scrutinising rider’s previous and ongoing form, which may lead to them being moved up or down a group. BCF points are awarded to the first six riders each night, with prizes provided by the SSSCRRL and Parker International. Trophies and medals are awarded to the overall winners of each category.

This year the League is expanding, with an increase to 12 events running each Thursday between 3rd May and 19th July, all with 6:45pm starts and with the final running order to be decided at the time of writing. The expansion is thanks to the new Sundorne Circuit, which has opened up new possibilities. Each race is typically 30-35 miles and (Sundorne excepted) on a rolling circuit, with all categories of riders catered for thanks to handicapped starts, with the field usually split into four groups based upon ability. Riders must possess a British Cycling racing licence for insurance purposes.
